The Creative Behind DARC Design Studio

Creative Director. Brand & Marketing Strategist. UX & Content Lead.

I didn’t follow a straight line to creative direction. I learned by doing—by writing, photographing, editing, designing, building brands from scratch, and figuring out how stories move through systems.

Along the way, I worked across mediums and markets, from print magazines to mobile apps, from remote startups to in-house teams scaling to millions. Each role stretched a different muscle: strategy, storytelling, leadership, execution.

Over time, those pieces came together into one integrated practice. Today, as a Creative Director, Brand & Marketing Strategist, and UX & Content Lead, I bring the full weight of that lived experience into every project. I’ve taken the long road—but it’s made the work sharper, more dimensional, and deeply human.

Light, Language, and Living Stories

I began my creative journey in photography, framing stories about people and places through images. Early on, I learned how to capture both the broad scope of a scene and the intimate details that convey emotion. This taught me the power of visual storytelling – how a single photo can freeze a moment and hint at a larger narrative. I became passionate about exploring all the different ways our human experience can be documented and shared through the lens.

In time, I realized that some stories needed more than images alone. I went on to earn a Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing, effectively “learning the words” to complement my visuals. Studying creative writing gave me a deeper understanding of narrative structure, voice, and the art of engaging an audience through language. It was a natural evolution: where my photographs left off, my writing picked up, allowing me to craft complete stories. This blend of words and imagery set the foundation for the next phase of my career.

Shaping Stories as an Editor

Armed with skills in both visuals and text, I ventured into the world of publishing as an editor and layout designer. In this role I learned to design the medium that tells the story – arranging text and images on the page to guide the reader’s eye and emotions. I worked on editorial layouts that brought together compelling copy with striking visuals, ensuring each article flowed and each photograph amplified the narrative. This period taught me about the harmony between content and design, and how thoughtful layout can elevate a story’s impact. It was storytelling from a new angle: not just creating content, but orchestrating how an audience experiences that content.

My first big leap in creative direction came when I took on the redesign of My Magical Myanmar, a monthly travel magazine. I spearheaded the end-to-end relaunch of the magazine, developing a fresh concept and visual identity to better capture the spirit of travel in Myanmar. This meant working closely with a small team of writers, photographers, and designers to overhaul everything from the logo and layouts to the storytelling approach. I directed the magazine’s new look and feel, ensuring that each issue delivered immersive stories with stunning design. Guiding My Magical Myanmar through a full redesign was a formative experience – it pushed me to blend my visual storytelling and editorial skills on a larger scale, and it proved how powerful a clear creative vision can be in reinvigorating a brand.

The Convergence of Craft

After the success of the magazine revamp, I stepped into an even broader creative role with Ananda, a new 4G digital service brand in Myanmar. As Creative Director for Ananda’s launch, I led a 360-degree campaign that truly tested and sharpened all my skills – visual, design, and narrative. This project involved crafting everything from the brand’s identity and voice to its advertising, social media presence, and user experience design. I worked on creating a cohesive story across all channels: we weren’t just introducing a product, we were introducing a promise of connectivity and modernity to the market. From designing the infinity-loop logo to scripting video commercials, I ensured that every piece of content echoed Ananda’s core message.

Launching Ananda was a milestone for me; it was the first time I oversaw a campaign of such scale, where every creative decision had to align across print, digital, and environmental design. The experience taught me how to maintain a unified vision while juggling many moving parts, and it was incredibly rewarding to see the brand come alive and resonate with its audience.

My journey then brought me to KBZ Bank, Myanmar’s leading bank, as a creative leader. This was my first opportunity to head up a large in-house creative team for an extended period. For several years at KBZ, I managed multiple creative campaigns simultaneously, each with its own objectives and challenges. I led a multidisciplinary team of designers, writers, and marketing strategists, guiding them to produce impactful campaigns that ranged from nationwide bank promotions to digital product launches.

This role was as much about leadership and strategy as it was about creativity. I learned to balance big-picture brand goals with day-to-day creative work, to mentor junior creatives while meeting tight deadlines, and to foster collaboration in a fast-paced corporate environment. Under my direction, our team delivered innovative solutions and consistent brand narratives across all media – from print ads and billboards to mobile apps and social media content. Leading the creative department at KBZ honed my ability to think simultaneously like a storyteller, a designer, and a project manager. It proved that with the right team dynamic and vision, even a conservative industry can embrace bold, human-centered storytelling in its marketing.

An Ongoing Evolution

Each chapter of my career – from capturing moments on film, to crafting narratives on paper, to directing multifaceted campaigns – has shaped me into the creator I am today. Along the way I’ve discovered that whether I’m behind a camera, at a writing desk, or in a boardroom leading a creative review, my driving force remains the same: telling compelling human stories. I believe that effective storytelling, combined with strong design and strategy, can transform brands and inspire people. My journey so far has been about constantly learning new ways to tell these stories. And as I continue forward, I remain passionate, curious, and excited to keep evolving as a creative professional – always ready for the next story to bring to life.
